Lisa Maris McDonell

22 to 27 June

While at Uillinn Lisa will be looking at the ways in which her Māori and Irish ancestries intersect with and mirror each other.

Lisa Maris McDonell is an Australian born choreographer / performer. She presents work both within Australia and internationally. Since 2020 she has presented her work under the title Proper Motion. Proper Motion’s recent projects include the video project Illawarra Dance Portraits, The $20 Commissions Project and its performance offshoot The Lobster (after The Australian Colloquial term for the $20 note), Optimal Stopping in collaboration with Mexico’s La Infinita Compañia and The BUDGET an ongoing project about money and the Arts. Throughout her career Lisa has been the recipient of many awards, grants and residencies, most recently the Sydney Dance Company / Create New South Wales – Beyond The Studio Fellowship.

Lisa’s workshops are based on her choreographic practice which is influenced by her contemporary and therapeutic dance training and experience. She leads participants in creating individual physical scores based on deep physical listening, and expands these individual dances into group performance scores. Her workshops are accessible to participants with any level of training who have an inquisitive and open mindset.

Lisa will also be presenting a work in progress showing at the conclusion of her residency.
