Esmee O'Brien
University of Limerick Co operative Work Placement
Ingenuity
17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24 June & 27, 28 August 2026.
This residency project is based on the intelligence and power of the creative mind, imagination combined with practical skills to invent unique ways of doing or seeing things. The project will bring artists from different mediums and backgrounds to collaborate on one improvised art showing. The artists will straddle being inventive and resourceful. Everyone will draw inspiration from each other simultaneously to create a completely original piece each time it is performed. This project will bring space alive through art.
At the end of the performance, I hope to inspire the audience to join in and create with the performers. Improvisation is perfect to represent the ingenuity of art in real time.
I'm Esmee O’Brien, I am a dancer, studying at the University of Limerick in the contemporary dance bachelor's program. I have just entered my third year of the course, and I am doing cooperative work placement at the Uillinn Arts Centre in West Cork. I have a background in acro, salsa, contemporary, and a tiny bit of ballet. My main love is acro as it's my oldest style of movement. I'm entirely self-taught but very advanced. I have studied ballet, jazz, acro, contemporary, circus and arial arts, traditional Indonesian dance, hip hop and Irish dance while in university. I also often work with artist from other mediums.
