Hetty Gazzaniga UL Co-Op Residency
26 May 2025 to 28 January 2026
For 2025, Hetty Gazzaniga’s studio residency at Uillinn is focused on developing new movement, exploring new music, and taking creative risk to devise a new work for Uillinn Dance Season.
Hetty is currently undertaking her placement at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre as part of the University of Limerick’s Cooperative Education Programme. This marks the inaugural year of Uillinn’s participation in the programme, offering support to Irish-based dance students in their professional development.
The placement will provide Hetty with opportunities to advance her artistic practice, enhance her personal training, and broaden her understanding of the dance industry. In addition to dedicated studio time, she will collaborate with the Uillinn team on the design and delivery of the Uillinn Dance Programme. This includes supporting the Uillinn Dance Season performance platform, facilitating contemporary dance workshops for young dancers, the Alan Foley Academy of Dance, and regular contemporary dance classes. Furthermore, Hetty will contribute to programming for major events such as Culture Night, Skibbereen Arts Festival, and Cruinniú na nÓg. Her role will also involve assisting dance artists undertaking studio residencies, thereby offering valuable support to the broader professional dance community at Uillinn.
Hetty Gazzaniga attended Alan Foley Academy of Dance from the age of 4 and Uillinn Young Dancers from her early teens, working with artists such as Tara Brandel, Elaine McCague, and Inma Pavon. She has performed at Cork Opera House, Crawford Art Gallery, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre, and solo work at Everyman Theatre, Cork in 2023 and 2024 as part of the Alan Foley Academy of Dance Showcase. Hetty is currently studying contemporary dance at University of Limerick, Irish World Academy with choreographers including Grant McLay, Monica Munoz and Justine Cooper. Through college, she has performed at the UL Glucksman Library, Dance Limerick, The Irish World Academy, The Hunt Museum, and a site specific contemporary ballet at Kinsale Arts Festival (choreography by Patricia Crosbie). She is currently participating in a nine month placement at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre as Dance Project Assistant, with responsibility for leading Uillinn Young Dancers, support work for Uillinn dance residency/Uillinn Dance Season programmes, teaching with Alan Foley Academy of Dance and delivering dance workshops for Skibbereen Arts Festival and West Cork Feelgood Festival.
Since her placement at Uillinn she has performed ‘Intrusive’ at Uillinn Dance Season 2025, which she had been working on during her residency at Uillinn. She will be bringing ‘Intrusive’ back in late December, to develop the dance further for a work in progress showing.
