Opening Event on Saturday 12 April at 2.00pm.

All are welcome to come along to the opening event will include an introduction to the exhibition by the artist Sonia Caldwell.

This body of work brings together the themes and ideas, materials and processes that have occupied the artist over the past number of years. Sonia has worked with stone and stone carving for many years, more recently with fired and unfired clay, and is currently exploring plant materials and construction techniques such as weaving and casting, and linked to this, she is experimenting with wearable sculpture and movement.

Sonia was the recipient of the Uillinn / Cork County Council Artist in Residence Award in 2019. During her residency at Uillinn, she began to develop the ideas and processes leading to this body of work. The sculptural and installation pieces that she has developed are centred around ideas of searching, journeying and awakening, and the role of spirituality in our lives. Sonia is deeply interested in human interaction and behaviour. Her interest goes beyond the physical form to embody complex emotional and spiritual needs, including our disconnection with the natural world.
