Inside Out
The James O'Driscoll Gallery
4 December to 22 December 2020
This exhibition showcases selected work made by local young people over a six-month period who are working with artist Tomasz Madajczak on the Inside Out project.
Inside Out began during the lockdown in March 2020. Initially, the group met by Zoom to discuss what they wanted from the project and how it would work and, as soon as restrictions allowed, the group began to meet at Uillinn to create together.
The young people - Nori, Leah, Jade, Sebastian, Nancy, Rowan, Lucija, Joe, Pamuya, Jim and Leo - began creating artworks reflecting on their inner world, using many different methods and materials and guided by Tomasz. Both Tomasz and the young people found it to be a very interesting process which encouraged creative flow and endeavour.
The exhibition gathers selected works from over six months of workshops. Having seen how they work, Tomasz wishes that the young people had written this exhibition text themselves, as he feels that they would have done an amazing job describing their experiences and the processes involved. 'The group is very extraordinary, with great sensitivity, deep insight and connection with the creative process' says Tomasz. 'The works displayed here carry a lot of emotion and reveal the state of mind and feelings of the young people. Each piece is individual and expresses a very unique way of feeling, sensing and seeing.'
