Le Ballet de la Nuit (12th hour)
A film installation by Mihaela Griveva (BG) with music by James Hazel (AU)
24 May to 8 June
This film by Bulgarian dance artist and choreographer Mihaela Griveva, with music by Australian composer James Hazel, is inspired by the transformation that occurs in nature in the time between the sunset and sunrise. The work explores the interaction between the Sun King represented by a female embodiment of a Goddess and the elements of nature.
The film is part of a collective screendance work commissioned by International de Video Dance de Bourgogne to celebrate the 365th anniversary of Le Ballet de la Nuit (The Ballet of the Night), a 13-hour ballet which debuted the talents of fourteen-year-old Louis XIV as Apollo, the Sun King.
Depicting various artistic representations, this 13 hour international omnibus dance film features hour-long segments created by 13 different teams of artistic collaborators who revisit, challenge, or pay tribute to the various cycles of the long ballet through diverse styles of contemporary dance and filmmaking.
Mihaela was awarded a Launchpad Bursary to support the development of this film installation for Uillinn.
