Jane Hughes is an Irish artist who lives and works between Ireland and Finland.

Her paintings evoke the uneasy familiarity of half-remembered places. Ghosts, bones and fossils permeate her work as she delves into links between geology and the supernatural. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at institutions including VISUAL Carlow, Ireland; the North Atlantic Lighthouse, Denmark, the State Gallery of Kaliningrad, Russia; and Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz, Berlin. Her paintings are held in public collections including the Irish State Collection (Department of Foreign Affairs), the Finnish National Gallery collection, and Helsinki University Hospital Collection, Finland (HUS).

Jane developed this print on the occasion of “Forward,” said granny in the snow – “Eteenpäin,” sanoi mummo lumessa, a two person exhibition with Selma Mäkelä, exploring landscape, memory and the vast temporal scales that underpin our world, curated by Paula Barrett at Uillinn in 2026.
