Re:Group
Studios 2 and 3
18 July to 6 August
Re:Group is an artist-led initiative of eleven professional visual artists, which has grown from connections to Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre. Responding to a time of isolation and shifting political circumstances through a series of Zoom meetings over the last 2 years, the artists have created an artist-led collaborative space reaching across international borders and for the first time will be meeting in person this summer in Skibbereen. The artists involved are Jamie Ashforth, Lisa Blas, William Bock, Hazel Cardew, Seiko Hayase, Sarah Iremonger, Tomasz Madajczak, Kate McElroy, Mary Sullivan, Mary Ruth Walsh and Tommy Weir.
During Skibbereen Arts Festival, the artists will explore and develop intersections between their arts practice through their exhibition Fragments in Constellation at the O’Driscoll Building and through their residency at Uillinn, referencing the Uillinn studio space within the O’Driscoll Building, and then migrating works from the O’Driscoll building back to Uillinn, creating spaces within spaces.
True to their origin story as a collection of artists from diverse localities, they will also be integrating content from Lisbon and Swansea where two of the artists will be in residence outside of Ireland during this process, and offering the public the opportunity to experience and participate in a cross-cultural creative dialogue through workshops, performances, events and other interactions.
WCAC acknowledges the financial support of the Arts Council and Cork County Council in making these residencies possible.
