Residencies at Uillinn

Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre offers Artist in Residence studio opportunities to contemporary practicing artists for research, the development of their arts practices and to engage in dialogue with Uillinn, other organisations in Cork, the local community, communities of interest and general public.

Uillinn provides a vibrant creative hub and an extensive programme of exhibitions, performances and events. There is a strong emphasis on making connections, networking and working with our geographical, social and community contexts.

A call to artists to apply to our Residency Programmes happens in summer each year. The submissions are assessed by a panel and successful applicants are informed by mid-October. Priority is given to artists who show a strong commitment to the public and audiences, and proposals that show relevance to our venue location and facilities.

This is a non-accommodation residency. Uillinn does not offer a stipend for the duration of a residency other than for Partnership Residencies which are advertised separately. We recommend that artists apply to their own Arts Councils, Local Authorities etc to source funding for accommodation, travel and expenses. We can assist artists making applications for funding with letters of support if requested 4 weeks in advance of the deadline. Artists who are legal residents of Creative Europe countries outside of Ireland, can apply for support from Culture Moves Europe; the UK-Ire Culture Connects Grant; and the Northern European Mobility Opportunity (NEMO).

The Residency Programme offers practical supports including fully accessible studio space, evening and weekend access, technical and administrative support, hot desk and wireless internet.

The three Artists’ Studios are located on Level 2 and range in size from 18.2 metres square to 21.2 metres square. They are interconnecting workspaces, with north facing roof lights, that can be closed off from each other. Each studio is equipped with heating facilities, sink and desk/work bench. The studios provide space for artists to engage in a programme of work over several weeks or months, to interact with the other artists in residence and exhibiting artists, and to facilitate access to their studio practice for specific groups on creative learning programmes and with the general public. The opportunity for people to engage with artists working on site is central to the programme, and so artists are requested to have their studios open to the public for 2 days each week.

The Dance Studio is located on Level 3 of Uillinn. It is a double height space, 56 metres square and equipped with a sprung wooden floor, marley, mirrors, barre and sound system. Changing room with a shower is available on Level 4. The Dance Studio can accommodate dance artists, choreographers and dance companies wishing to realise their work from idea to performance, and to engage with our public and our unique rural location at research, development and production stages.
