a year long project with Uillinn's Young People
A Multimedia Project Exploring the Space Between Waking and Dreaming
Are you aged 13–17 and feeling imaginative, expressive, or reactive?
Join Between Dreams and Reality at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre is a unique, year-long creative project that invites young people to explore the boundary between dreams and waking life through visual art, dance, performance, and multimedia.
This youth-led project is shaped through a combination of weekly workshops, two summer camps for Dance and Visual Art (7–11 July 2025) along with collaborative exhibitions and performances.
Participants work alongside professional artists to develop new skills, express imaginative ideas, and bring their visions to life.
In Spring, young participants from Uillinn Young Dancers and Draw Mind Matters began exploring the theme “Between Dreams and Reality.”
Draw Mind Matters explored visual storytelling through large-scale drawings and paintings, inspired by dream theory and supported by artist Tomasz Madajczak.
Uillinn Young Dancers worked with professional artists Elaine McCague, Tara Brandel, and Hetty Gazzaniga to begin choreographing movement pieces that reflect the liminal space between the conscious and unconscious.
Draw Mind Matters created an exhibition of their large scale drawings and paintings which launched on Cruinniú na nÓg, 7 June 2025 at Uillinn.
Participants explored movement across space, dreamlike visuals, projection, and musical composition (with original music by Aran Hopkinson).
The final showcase for the summer camps took place on Friday, 11 July 2025 at 6:30pm and was a multimedia performance combining dance, art, and sound.
The project continues into autumn with deeper collaboration between the groups. Artists and facilitators include Elaine McCague, Tara Brandel, Hetty Gazzaniga, Sylwia Migdal and guest artists in residence.
Participants will co-create the final performance as they refine their ideas and prepare for a large-scale public presentation at Uillinn Dance Season 2025 in November.
The project will culminate during Uillinn Dance Season 2025 with a final performance at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre. This celebratory event will present the collaborative outcomes of the dancers and artists in a powerful expression of youth creativity.
