Hana Erdman & Louise Dahl
Glenkeen Gardens Residency
9 to 17 April, 29 April to 1 May & 27 to 29 May 2025

Inspired by the ephemerality of light and sound as fundamental building blocks of perception, this project explores the unstable, dissolving material of the body in movement. Curious about these shifting forces and natural phenomena—such as the electrical currents before a storm or the rise and fall of spring tides—we investigate how our perception and movement are shaped by unseen and transient forces, capturing the subtle dance between the material and the immaterial.

As lifelong practitioners of embodiment, our practice moves through the intangible, the fleeting and the energizing forces that shape human experience. We investigate how movement and relational dynamics shape our physical experience, our perceptions of self, and our interactions with the world around us. This leads us to an inquiry into the female experience—its cyclical and seasonal rhythms, its animality, and its physiological attunement to the natural world.

As choreographers, we understand performance as a collective, slow experience—a space where time opens up, offering the possibility to reconnect with something fundamental, something shared. In a culture where rituals and communal practices have shifted or disappeared, there is a quiet call to awaken or reclaim these connections.

We aim to develop movement material for a final work, created in collaboration with Marta Popivoda and Ana Vujanović. This work, blending live performance, video, and text, will be presented in 2026 at the Crespo Foundation in Frankfurt as part of the Glenkeen Garden residency. Further presentations are planned at the Goethe Institute in Dublin and the Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre in 2027.

Through dance, sound, and visual art, Hana Lee Erdman explores the relationships between bodies, energy, and consciousness within the natural world. Her work questions the divisions between human, non-human, and environment, creating immersive spaces that prompt reflection on perception, existence, and the relational dynamics between all forms of life. Through performance and installation, Erdman uses movement to examine these connections, emphasizing the intricate and reciprocal nature of living systems.

Louise Dahl works with dance and choreography both in Sweden and internationally, engaging in close collaboration with fellow choreographers and artists, while also initiating her own projects. Her practice is defined by a technical approach to the body, through which she explores the material manifestation of invisible and metaphysical realities. From 2020 to 2023, Louise was a member of the Cullberg ensemble, performing in works by Jefta van Dinther, Alma Söderberg, and Deborah Hay. In recent years, she has contributed as a dancer to projects by Cristina Caprioli, Jeanine Durning, Frederic Gies, and Philip Berlin. Additionally, Louise has a long-standing artistic collaboration with Hana Erdman.

Louise holds a bachelor’s degree in Dance and Performance from the Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH)
