Invoking the spirit of dance halls, the Country OK dance event is a rollicking celebration of live performance, live music and dancing that invites you to let loose and join in!
Featuring an inter-generational dance cast from communities across West Cork, joined by professional dancers and live music by members of The Tan Jackets with Robbie Barron, Country OK will have you foot-tapping and hip-twisting to the heart-wrenching songs of country music. Following the performance, the audience is invited to join the dance party and let loose to a live country music band playing tunes inspired by the likes of Hank Williams and Willie Nelson!
“amazing show last night, it was a pleasure to bring my parents, we all loved it”
The Town Hall is wheelchair accessible. Earplugs provided for those who might be noise sensitive.
This residency time will be spent rehearsing Country OK dance event with local dancers and dance enthusiasts. The aim of the process is to bring people together who share a love of movement, providing people with an opportunity to learn new movement, to develop movement that is unique to each person and to perform for family and friends. Live music is an important part of the process and each workshop will be accompanied by a musician. The final performance features a four-piece band and Country music costumes in Town Hall, Skibbereen. A team of four professional dancers will also be part of the show. This show brings together different elements of my work including; working with an intergenerational cast (different ages and stages can bring a richness to the process that everyone benefits from); connecting people to their dancing bodies through seeing dance and doing dance (I have done this through events such as Big Dance Night and The Shake). Working with live music in this way is new to my process and confirms my instinct that live music can transform the dance experience both as a viewer and mover.
